

The Idea Center at Playhouse Square is the result of a unique partnership between three longtime Cleveland institutions: WVIZ/PBS, 90.3WCPN and the Playhouse Square Foundation (PSF). TSG was selected as the Broadcast and A/V systems design and equipment integration specialist for the Idea Center tenant suite, to ensure that the needs of the stations were integrated into the facility workflow planning and infrastructure design.
The Technical Monitoring Center (TMC) which uses a pair of BARCO OverView cDR+67-DL driven by Miranda Kaleido-K2 to display the more than forty incoming and outgoing signals. The Technical Equipment room required more than 90 racks to house core systems including Trinix, Apex and Concerto routers from Thomson Grass Valley, Intercom systems from RTS/Telex and Reference generators from Evertz. Andrews 5.6m Ku Steerable Antennae and Comtek - 3.8m Ku NPR Antenna were installed on the roof to receive both PBS and NPR programming.
Studio 1 is a 300 seat theater with retractable seating, dual lighting systems, and custom floor covering make it appropriate for theater and television production. Town-Hall meetings and live musical performances can be broadcast by WCPN with the help of Klotz Digital’s – VADIS Facility wide audio networking solution. 90.3 WCPN Radio and streaming facilities are housed in three control rooms and three performance studios that are positioned to allow for simultaneous set up and production of mutable programs.
Studio 4 houses WCPN’s primary production location during the morning and evening drive times. Studio 5 serves as a recording and packaging studio, voice tracking as well as multi-track editing for more elaborate pieces aired throughout the day.
